Applications for a flexible position- Recreation Aid (Lifeguard)-NF-0189-I -located at the Outdoor Recreation (Pool) are now being accepted for the summer. This position will include varied shifts, which may include weekends. The salary will range from $7.25 to $12.89. This position is a summer hire position with a not to exceed date of 15-SEP-2012.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Observes swimming area to ensure safety of patrons. Ensures the swimming area is open to patrons at scheduled times and only authorized persons are admitted to the area. Rescues swimmers in trouble, promptly administers first aid, and calls for medical assistance if and when needed. Warns swimmers of unsafe environmental or health conditions, and recommends closing swimming areas until safe conditions prevail. May operate water pumps and control chemical additives to ensure pool water meets specified standards. Ensure that diving boards are inspected frequently for cracks or loose matting. May perform other related or incidental duties as assigned for the daily operation of the swimming area to include the cleaning of all swimming areas. May occasionally mow the grass around the pool area using a powered lawnmower. Performs other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: Must have an approved and current nationally recognized certification in lifesaving and water rescue methods and skills, as well as basic first aid training, and CPR (both child and adult) training. Must have experience which provides practical knowledge of swimming activities, rules, and procedures and skill in the use and maintenance of various pool and safety equipment is desirable. Satisfactory completion of installation record checks and state and national criminal background checks may be required for positions that provide lifesaving duties for children.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The primary purpose of this position is to serve as an admissions clerk at the base pool. Checks customers entering the pool building for proper identification, makes sure admissions log is filled in, checks validity of pool passes, collects daily admission fees. Assists customers desiring swim lesson sign-ups. Issues pool passes and accounts for fees assessed. Provides customers with resale items such as snack foods. Heats certain food items in microwave oven. Stocks supply and resale items. Rings up fees and charges at cash register using appropriate keys. May assist supervisor in the preparation and drop off of bank deposits, cash and inventory counts. Issues and safeguards customer’s personal belonging containers. Answers telephone. Provides information about facility requirements, schedules and activities. Takes messages. May periodically open or close facility. Posts notices. Makes distribution runs to main office and Outdoor Recreation facility. Copies documents and repro-copy machine as directed. Cleans work and customer areas to include picking up litter, emptying refuse containers, sweeping and mopping floors. May be periodically assigned to work the equipment issue and return counter at building 1222 Outdoor Recreation and accomplish similar duties at that facility.
QUALIFICATIONS: No previous experience is required although a practical knowledge of customer service, recreational activities, rules and procedures is desirable. Ability to handle and safeguard cash is also desirable. Must be able to obtain food handler certificate. Satisfactory completion of installation records checks, and state and national criminal background checks. This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use.
