The Air Force Aid Society recognizes many have faced extra expenses from school closings due to COVID-19 and that parents are now managing the educational needs of their children through virtual school programs. Families may be experiencing financial hardship and face difficulty paying the additional costs associated with purchasing home school supplies and equipment for the Fall 2020 school year.
Beginning 1 September (0800 EST) the Air Force Aid Society (AFAS) will accept online applications for the Virtual Schooling Grant (VSG) targeted at Air Force families experiencing financial hardship funding costs associated with the Fall 2020 school year. AFAS is assisting with a one-time grant to those eligible with dependents in grades K thru 12 in the amount of $250 per family.
Applications will be available at https://afas.org/vsg/ (*This will not be available until 1 September). Active Duty Airmen, AF Reserve (AFR) and Air National Guard (ANG) Airmen on continuous active duty orders for more than 15 days under Title 10, Air National Guard AGR (Full‐Time, Title 32, 502(f) only), Air Force retirees, and widow(er)s can apply.
Please note the following:
- Incomplete applications will not be accepted
- Deployed spouses can apply but will need to provide a Power of Attorney (POA) or if no POA, an e‐mail of acknowledgment from the member authorizing the spouse to request assistance for the grant on their behalf can be submitted.
- Approved applications will be forwarded to the Airman & Family Readiness Center and members will be contacted to schedule a time to pick up their check.
- The VSG will discontinue once funds are exhausted.
