Kayak Instruction and Paddling (at the Morony Natatorium indoor pool)

Join the growing community of kayak paddlers who gather in the indoor pool to paddle, take classes, and swap stories. Ages 12 and up only; those under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. No Club Card discount.

Kayak Roll and Paddling Class

Tuesdays, Sept. 7 or 21, from 7 to 9 pm
The class focuses on the roll, but will also include forward, reverse, bracing and turning strokes as well. Includes pool fee, instruction and kayak equipment.
Cost per person: $30.

Open Pool Kayak Paddling Practice

Tuesdays, Sept. 7 or 21, from 7 to 9 pm
Practice paddle strokes, perfect your roll, or try a new maneuver.
Cost per person: Pool use - $5, equipment rental - $5 (if needed).

Backpacking 101 Class

Thursday, Sept. 9, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm
Want to get into backpacking but would like some tips to help make the first trip successful? Learn about trip planning, what to bring and what to leave behind. Also, find out about packable meals.
Cost: free.

Using a GPS to Navigate the Backcountry Class

The Global Positioning System (GPS) provides backcountry travelers technological advantages, but only if you know how to use them.

Navigating with Map and Compass Class

Friday, Oct. 1, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm
Nobody plans to get lost! Don’t let it happen to you! Learn to orient a map, take a bearing, follow a bearing, navigate to a destination, and then find where you are. These are basic skills that backcountry travelers should master to keep themselves safe and avoid having to be rescued!
Cost: Free.

Mountain Orienteering, Practice in Navigating Backcountry

Saturday, Oct. 2, from 8 am to 6 pm
Practice skills learned in map & compass class. Orient a map, take a bearing, follow a bearing, navigate to a destination, and then find where you are. Build proficiency in this vital skill.
Cost: $15 per person. Club Card 10% discount honored.
