The Air Force Aid Society is providing funding for the Child Development Center to be open once a month to care for children of parents who are needing a break due to the demands of military life and parenting. With frequent deployments, long working hours, remote tours, etc., parents often find it difficult to cope with demands of parenting. Additionally, most Air Force families are far from family who might otherwise offer support.

The Give Parents A Break program provides commanders, first sergeants, and other base officials, in the referral network, a way to help.

Note: This program is not to be used to simply provide “free child care” but rather as a program to help commanders, first sergeants, and other base officials help families who need temporary relief from the challenges of parenting.

Eligibility

Active Duty Air Force families are eligible for the Give Parents A Break program and would include the following situations:

  • The military member being deployed or TDY
  • Having children with special needs
  • An emergency situation, such as illness of a family member
  • Family PCS to and from the base
  • Unique circumstances or hardships

Referrals

The following may refer families for GIVE PARENTS A BREAK and will provide a referral certificate upon acceptance into the program:

  • Squadron Commander or First Sergeant Chaplain
  • Base doctor or other base medical professional
  • Family Advocacy personnel
  • Community Support Center personnel

The Airman & Family Services of the 341st Force Support Squadron will oversee this program, to include registration, reservations, providing child care services, and reporting to AFAS officer.
